Charisse Rivers founded Zinnia Wealth Management in 2007 because she didn’t like where the retirement planning industry was heading. Her colleagues were pushing “outdated practices and old-school theories,” and they weren’t keen to try fresh ideas. So, she launched Zinnia from her home.
It wasn’t easy being a woman in what was then a man’s world. People warned her she wouldn’t make it. When she did, competitors tried to push her out. But Rivers never quit. Inc. magazine today revealed that Zinnia Wealth Management is No. 1673 on its annual Inc. 5000 list, the most prestigious ranking of the nation’s fastest-growing private companies. The list represents a unique look at the most successful companies within the American economy’s most dynamic segment—its independent small businesses. Intuit, Zappos, Under Armour, Microsoft, Patagonia, and many other well-known names gained their first national exposure as honorees on the Inc. 5000.

Among the 5,000, the average median three-year growth rate soared to 543 percent, and median revenue reached $11.1 million. Together, those companies added more than 610,000 jobs over the past three years.
